FAQ: Internet Presence

For Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) not related to Database Development, Internet Presence, and Consulting and Support, please refer to our General FAQ Page.

1. What does your Internet Presence Service include?

Normally it will include the following:

  1. Domain Name Registration. This will be the address your site will be accessed from, like www.companyname.com. Multiple domain names can point to a single website.

  2. Website Design and Development. This includes the layout, development of the HTML pages, and basic image editing. Text and photos to be used in the site will be supplied by the client.

  3. Website Hosting. This is the fee for the Internet servers that will make your site available over the Internet 24 hours a day. This includes email hosting so each person in your organization will have an email address like john@companyname.com.

2. We have our own domain name and website hosting already. What do you need to for just website design/development or maintenance?

Once the initial design is done, we’ll need FTP address, username and password access to your website host so we can upload and test the website. You can request this from your web hosting provider.

If the website involves server development (like MySQL/PHP), we will need access to your web hosting CPANEL (Control Panel) to install and test scripts. You can also request this from your web hosting provider.

3. Can we host our website in our office?

Yes. At the minimum, you will need the following:

  1. A full-time Internet connection, such as high-speed broadband (cable/DSL)

  2. A Mac, Linux, or Windows computer dedicated to hosting the website (this will be the server) with provision for backup hardware and/or software

  3. Internet Server software, such as Apache (for serving web pages), and/or MySQL/PHP (for database driven websites)

Please note that the above requirements may change depending on exact needs.
